Copyright means the right to copy

The Access Copyright license gives educators and students advance permission to copy from millions of copyright protected newspapers, magazines, journals and books, complementing what is allowed under fair dealing, educational exceptions under the Copyright Act,and through the public domain. 

Students 

You can: 

  • copy 1 article or up to 10% of a work 
  • copy a whole chapter up to 20% of a book 
  • show a DVD or video with Public Performance Rights (PPR) in class
  • for DVDs or videos without PPR, use the Reporting Form prior to showing in class

Faculty             

You can: 

  • make up to 1 copy of an article for each student in the class as per Copyright Act limits.  
  • place a Persistent link in Blackboard to an article in one of the Library Databases 
  • show a DVD or video with PPR in class  
  • for DVDs or videos without PPR, use the Reporting Form prior to showing in class
  • show off air presentations in the classroom 
  •  place an off air taping on reserve
